Beautiful African mahogany mancala board with a smooth, protective finish. Folds up and latches closed for easy storage. This mancala board is a sturdy, solid wood item made out of a single, continuous piece of African mahogany - you can follow the grain in the wood from the start of the mancala board all the way to the end.
Full set of glass 'stones' included so that the board is ready to play. Some folks pick up special stones and beads to really make the mancala board "their own". Please send us photos if you do this, we love seeing people's ideas! As with all our products, this is proudly made in Snohomish, Washington.
Mancala has been around for a very long time - there's concrete evidence of mancala being played in the 3rd century AD. Amazingly, mancala is considered one of the oldest games still played, and there are numerous variations and rules. Our family tends to follow this simple ruleset:
* Player picks up all the stones from a hole, and drops one stone in each hole going clockwise starting with the next hole in line.
* If player ends in their 'bucket' at the end, they get to go again.
* Game continues until there are no more stones outside of the buckets on the end.

Open, the mancala board is about 5.5" wide and 21" long. Closed, it's about 10.5". As product this does come with small glass gems you should be cautious with it around children. The glass pieces can pose a choking hazard. -

Care instructions
This is critically important. Wood cutting boards must never EVER be put in a dishwasher, or completely submerged in water. It's OK to run some lukewarm water and soap over them to wash off stubborn or greasy issues, but they must then be completely dried and oiled with mineral oil again to prevent warping or cracking. Never let a cutting board sit in water - it's common to put a hand towel under the board while using it. It's very easy to see when water damage happens because it will bow - at that point it might be repairable, but it's more likely to be ruined. Do not use organic oils like vegetable/canola/coconut/etc to oil the board. It will start smelling rancid as those oils break down. Use only food grade mineral oil.
Fixing a cutting board
First, if the problem is water damage (bowing, bad cracking) it's likely that the board has been ruined. Constantly keeping the board oiled and waxed will help eliminate this problem.
If a cutting board has lots of scratches and mars on it, grab some 180 grit sandpaper and sand the surface as evenly as you can until the scratches are gone. Then, oil it heavily (letting it puddle on top for an hour or so), wipe off and dry, then wax using beeswax. Home Depot/Lowes/etc carry basic mixes that can help with this process.
If a cutting board has split or is cracking at a lamination point, it likely was heated up or water damage. These boards are not meant for use as hot pads, and if they get over 160 degrees the resin can start to melt. -

I was incredibly disappointed with the quality of the mancala board that I received. I ordered this as a gift for Christmas and it arrived scratched, dinged up, faded, and discolored. Not at all worth a nearly $80 price tag. When I told the seller about the quality of the board, they asked for me to retrieve the gift from the recipient so they could examine the board for their own quality control. On top of the board quality issue, I was also disappointed that, after checking with the seller prior to purchasing that it could be delivered before Xmas, it still arrived quite late.

The maker was communicative throughout the process and delivered the product in time for the holidays. It was of high quality and was a hit with its recipient! I will say I didn’t realize how large the custom engraving was going to be on the product, so I do wish I’d known that ahead of time. Other than that, the product was fantastic.

I was a bit disappointed in the attention to detail in this board. The two pieces did not line up properly and they are askew. And the screws used are not flush with the surface of the hinge or the wood. The quality could have been better for the price charged.
